Moscow – Saint Petersburg – Karelia
After visiting two capitals of Russia you are welcome to Karelia – a place of pristine nature. The region becomes more and more popular for its relaxing views of woods, lakes, waterfalls and the famous Ruskeala marble canyon. Nowadays it is filled with water creating a spectacular lake. Other Karelian wonder is Ladoga lake with its rocky lines (skerries) and pine shores.
DAY 1. Moscow
- Arrival to Moscow. Meeting the guide in the airport.
- Transfer to the hotel. Check-in. Free time.
- Dinner at the hotel restaurant.
DAY 2
- Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
- City sightseeing bus tour. Observing the most famous sights of Moscow: Triumfalnaya Square, Bolshoi and Malyi theatres, Kremlevskaya embankment, Poklonnaya Hill, Triumphal Arch, Kutuzovsky prospect, the Russian White House and many more.
- Kremlin. А walking tour inside the unique medieval architecture and a visit to one of the Kremlin cathedrals.
- Lunch
- The Red square – the heart of Moscow. A walking tour including Red square, Manezhnaya square, GUM shoppling mall, Alexander Garden.
- The Arbat street. A walking tour along the most distinguishing pedestrian street which is one of the symbols of Moscow.
- Transfer to the hotel.
DAY 3
- Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
- Museum-estate "Tsaritsyno" – an architectural and park ensemble which was the residence of Catherine II. The excursions include Grand Palace, Opera House and the Park.
- Lunch
- The observation deck of the Federation Tower skyscraper, 89th floor (the Moscow City business centre) – an all-around 360° view, a photo studio where you can have professional pictures with the city landscape, a 3D exhibition, a virtual guide with added reality and even an interactive ice cream factory.
- Transfer to the hotel.
DAY 4
- Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
- Check-out
- "Stories and legends of the underworld" – an excursion in the Moscow underground (metro) which is a real masterpiece of architecture. Some stations are in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- The State Tretyakov Gallery – the famous museum, where Russian gems of fine arts have been exhibited since 1856.
- Lunch
- Option: a ship cruise down the Moskva river with an a-la carte dinner onboard.
- Transfer to the hotel for the luggage, transfer to the railway station.
- A night trip to Saint Petersburg by train.
DAY 5. Saint Petersburg
- Arrival to Saint Petersburg. Meeting the guide at the railway station.
- City sightseeing bus tour. All the prominent sights of St. Petersburg: Nevsky prospect, Palace Square, Hermitage, Saint Isaac's Cathedral, Neva embankment, Bronze Horseman, cathedrals, palaces and other monuments. Several stops are planned for walking around.
- Peter and Paul Fortress – the cornerstone and the heart of Saint Petersburg. The excursion includes Peter and Paul’s Cathedral where Russian emperors are buried and the Troubetskoy Bastion prison.
- Lunch
- Boat trip in the historical part of St. Petersburg (audio guide included).
- Transfer to the hotel. Check in.
DAY 6
- Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
- Peterhof – the residence of Russian tzars. It is a must-see for anyone coming to St. Petersburg. It’s called the Russian Versailles for its astonishing park of fountains and baroque architecture. The tour includes a visit to the Great Palace and the Grottoes.
- Free time for a lunch.
- Returning back to the city by boat through the Gulf of Finland.
- End of the program in the city centre.
- Option: a night boat trip under the famous draw bridges of St. Peterburg.
DAY 7
- Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
- St. Isaac’s Cathedral. The largest church in St. Petersburg, an outstanding example of religious architecture. Not only will you see the cathedral inside, but also observe the city view from the 43 m high colonnade.
- The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. One of the iconic symbols of St. Petersburg, famous for its Russian style architecture, colorful domes, internal mosaics and a very special story of being founded.
- Lunch
- The State Hermitage. One of the greatest world’s museums shows treasures of the international culture. Moreover, it is located in the Winter Palace which retains memory of the most important events in the Russian history.
- Transfer to the hotel.
DAY 8
- Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
- Tour to Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin). One more royal residence which belongs to the historical and architectural heritage. The tour includes excursions at the Catherine’s palace, the Amber room and in the park.
- Free time for lunch.
- Transfer to the hotel.
DAY 9. Karelia
- Buffet breakfast in the hotel, сheck-out.
- Transfer to Priozersk (150 km), where Korela fortress (Käkisalmi fortress) of the 13th century is situated. You will get to know interesting facts about Karelian history, culture and nature of this picturesque northern Russian corner.
- Arrival to Sortavala (120 km).
- Lunch
- Ahvenkoski waterfall – a spectacular river cascade flowing on granite ledges surrounded by a forest.
- Ruskeala marble canyon. This mountain park is a symbol of Northern Ladoga Region and whole Karelia. The tour includes a sightseeing walk with a guide and spare time for a lot of entertainments Ruskeala is famous for: zipline riding above the canyon, visiting caves, craft workshops, light show, skiing in winter etc.
- Transfer to the hotel, check in.
DAY 10
- Buffet breakfast in the hotel, check-out .
- Transfer to Berezovo (100 km) for a boat trp in the picturesque Ladoga lake with its rocky islands.
- Lunch
- Visit to a trout farm and a fish shop where you can taste trout, carp, and honey, vegetables and forest goods of local production.
- Transfer to Saint-Petersburg airport.
